Related Ross’ CityPlace designated Palm Beach County’s first LEED Gold Certified Neighborhood Development

The 72-acre neighborhood, offering unparalleled access to the best arts and culture, dining, shopping workplaces, luxury residential living and entertainment, continues to set the standard for the future of sustainable, forward-thinking urban developments.

CityPlace, developed, owned and managed by Related Ross, has made history in Palm Beach County by achieving LEED Gold certification, marking a significant milestone for the neighborhood. Awarded by the United States Green Building Council for its green infrastructure, public transportation accessibility, pedestrian-friendly design and overall innovation, this LEED-ND certification solidifies CityPlace as one of the most sustainable, connected and forward-thinking urban neighborhoods in the country.

“Being designated as the first LEED Gold neighborhood in Palm Beach County underscores our commitment to responsible urban design, building a sustainable future and establishing new benchmarks for cities globally,” says Ken Himmel, President of Related Ross. “We are confident that this recognition will serve as the blueprint for future South Florida developments and direct us beyond the scale of buildings to create well-connected and healthy communities.”

The certification of LEED Gold encompasses the residential, commercial and mixed-use buildings within CityPlace and is a testament to Related Ross’ dedication to green building and sustainable design. As the foremost program for the design, construction and operation of green buildings, LEED recognizes CityPlace for its steadfast approach to building sustainable infrastructure, its community and wellness oriented public designs, tech-forward urban innovations and unwavering commitment to giving back to Palm Beach County. Key features of recognition include:

  • Access to quality transit: CityPlace provides convenient access to quality transit options including the Brightline station, situated adjacent to CityPlace’s 360 Rosemary building, connecting South Florida through high-speed rail service between West Palm Beach, Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton and Miami.
  • Walkable streets: CityPlace is designed with walkability in mind, offering pedestrian-friendly streets that allow for easy exploration of its vibrant shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues. Wide sidewalks, ample crosswalks, and lushly landscaped public spaces create a comfortable and inviting environment for walking. The layout encourages residents and visitors to enjoy the area on foot, fostering a sense of community and connection.
  • Connected and Open Community: CityPlace hosts 1,000+ free events each year for locals and visitors, designed and built with internal connectivity for general public use.
  • Tree-lined and Shaded Streets: Cityplace is designed to provide street trees on both sides of at least 60% of new and existing streets within the project and on the project side of bordering streets, between the vehicle travel way and walkway, at intervals averaging no more than 40 feet.
  • Certified Green Building: CityPlace is home to buildings within the project including 360 Rosemary and The Laurel that are certified through LEED Gold certified. Additionally, the forthcoming 10 and 15 CityPlace buildings are designed to be LEED Gold certified.
  • Housing and Jobs Proximity: CityPlace offers a seamless blend of residential and job proximity, with many residences and businesses located within walking distance. Residents living at The Laurel, CityPlace South Tower and The Flats at CityPlace, can walk to offices, restaurants and entertainment within minutes. Major employers, such as nearby financial institutions and tech firms based at Related Ross’ two Class-A Office Towers in CityPlace, 360 Rosemary and CityPlace Tower, are also within the district providing job opportunities.
  • Water efficiency: Indoor water usage in new buildings is at an average of 20% less than in baseline buildings.

This recognition sets the neighborhood apart as a leader in sustainable development in Palm Beach County. The meticulous planning and execution of sustainable initiatives have transformed CityPlace into a model of environmental stewardship for other neighborhoods to emulate. This recognition serves as inspiration for future developments to prioritize sustainability and environmental preservation.

As Related Ross’ CityPlace celebrates its LEED Gold certification, the community and stakeholders can take pride in this remarkable accomplishment.
